Barcelona (population 1,600,000) is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain. The city’s origins can be traced back to the Roman colony of Barcino, in the first century bc. Its two thousand years of history have left their mark on the city’s architectural, artistic and cultural heritage. Its prime location, excellent international connections, Mediterranean climate and cosmopolitan character make it a truly exceptional place to live, work and study.
