Biography

José Ramón Herrero is an associate professor in the Computer Architecture Department at UPC–BarcelonaTech. He has lectured at the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) since 1994, teaching 14 courses in several areas, including Computer Architecture, Operating Systems and Parallel Programming, among others. At FIB he has held the positions of Vice-Dean for Institutional and International Relations and Vice-Dean as Head of Academic Studies. His research interests focus mainly on High-Performance Scientific Computing.

Description

This course covers concepts of parallel processing: parallel architectures and programming models, shared memory and message transmission. Identifying parallels in applications, synchronisation methods, dependency analysis, task programming, collective communication and operations, parallel I/O. It shows students how to measure performance and energy consumption in parallel applications. Tools, programming languages, libraries and macros.
