Classes are taught Monday to Friday from 8.45 am to 11 am and from 11.15 am to 1.30 pm.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students should have a good command of English.

TEACHING METHOD

Courses are delivered through lectures with a focus on active learning. By combining theoretical concepts with current news items and case studies and articles, classes aim to show students practical applications of these concepts in the contemporary world.

TEACHING STAFF

Put together by a team of ESCI-UPF experts from the academic and business worlds, the Summer School programme aims to link solid theoretical foundations with practical knowledge and expertise that can be readily applied to companies today. This balanced approach equips students with comprehensive, crosscutting skills taught by professionals committed to excellence and the achievement of innovative objectives.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION AND TRANSCRIPT OF RECORDS

Once they have completed the programme, students receive a Certificate of Completion. Approximately one month later, they are emailed an official Transcript of Records detailing the courses taken, the ECTS credits earned and the marks awarded.

All fees related to the ESCI-UPF Barcelona Summer School are nonrefundable under any circumstances, except if the programme is not offered due to a lack of participants. A minimum of 15 students is required to run the programme.

Please note that if the programme is cancelled, ESCI-UPF cannot be held responsible for any travel, visa and/or accommodation expenses that prospective participants may have incurred before or after the programme has been cancelled.

It is the sole responsibility of participants to apply for and obtain their visa (if applicable) in a timely manner. Students whose visa application is rejected or whose visa is not delivered in time are not eligible for a refund.

Due to the limited number of slots available, any withdrawal from the programme means that a place is lost and prevents another participant from joining the programme.

Please be aware that students are solely responsible for their travel, accommodation and visa costs (if applicable). We highly recommend that participants take out travel insurance for these matters.

DISCLAIMER

Students should submit the required valid documentation and pay their tuition fees in full as soon as they receive conformation of a place. Applications will be rejected if we have not received the tuition fee by the start of the course.

Please choose your summer courses carefully bearing in mind your needs and weighing up the different options available. Once your place has been confirmed, you will not be able to change course.

You can withdraw from the programme and have your tuition fee refunded by emailing ESCI-UPF Barcelona Summer School.

The ESCI-UPF Barcelona Summer School offers a wide range of cultural and social activities, including a welcome meetup, a guided tour of Barcelona, sporting activities and many other exciting experiences. The social programme is designed to acquaint students with Catalan culture, show them something of Barcelona’s vibrant city life and encourage them to forge ties and get to know each other better.

Barcelona

Barcelona boasts a rich cultural heritage, seamlessly blending its medieval history with a contemporary vibe. The city is a melting pot of different architectural styles that have shaped its history, including iconic landmarks like Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Família and Park Güell, together with the cathedral, the Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter.

MEDITERRANEAN CUISINE

Barcelona is well known for its tempting cuisine. It offers a wide variety of Mediterranean and Spanish dishes and is also a haven for fusion foodies, who might easily imagine they are suddenly in Asia or South America. Be it exploring the bustling La Boqueria market or sipping a drink in the Eixample neighbourhood, Barcelona always has something delicious to offer.

SUMMER

Summer in Barcelona means living the Mediterranean lifestyle to the full. Whether taking a dip at Barceloneta beach, going for a walk along the Passeig Marítim or sprawling on the grass in the Parc de la Ciutadella, Barcelona offers plenty of options for relaxing and enjoying summer on the Mediterranean.

ART AND MUSEUMS

Barcelona is a treasure trove for art lovers. All the city’s leading museums, such as the Picasso Museum, Joan Miró Foundation and National Art Museum of Catalonia, have major collections covering a vast range of artistic styles. In addition to their permanent collections, they also put on world-class temporary exhibitions. Some museums offer free admission on the first Sunday of the month.

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS

There is a strong tradition of performing arts in Barcelona. The city’s vibrant cultural scene boasts a wide range of music, theatre, concerts and festivals, especially with the arrival of the warm weather. The Grec and Cruïlla festivals always feature an impressive lineup, although you will also find plenty of cultural activities in almost every neighbourhood throughout the summer.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that you consider taking out travel insurance to cover the whole period of the Summer School. Bespoke packages are available to international students at a special rate. These packages cover the cost of medical care up to a set limit.

ACCOMMODATION

You should book a hotel or hostel room well in advance. Finding a room in Barcelona in the summer can prove very difficult without an advance booking.

ESCI-UPF does not have any dorms or apartments of its own. We can only provide information on accommodation.
